2nd House in Vedic Astrology

Dhana bhava

Bhava 2, Dhana, goes beyond money: goods, food, family and speech. Its lord is neutral, but the house is among six deemed malefic.

Dhana, wealth: that is the name of bhava 2. Do not limit yourself to that word. Of course your possessions are gathered here, but also grain and food, kin, metals and stones. It is also called Sva and evokes the household. Add speech, including telling the truth, and sight.

It is succedent, meaning placed right after an angle. Guru signifies it for family and finances. You examine it from the Lagna, the rising sign, but also from Chandra.

Its lord holds a singular position. The lord of the 2nd, like those of the 8th and 12th, is neither benefic nor malefic in itself and takes on the tint of its partner. Yet bhava 2 appears in a series of six houses deemed malefic. Both aspects live side by side.

Picture the family table: what is savored there and what is confided there.

The axis of the 2nd house

In one and the same person, ambiguous speech and a tender heart: these traits readily mix for Rahu in the second house, bhava 2. Add a quick temper, and yet happiness. In a more austere light, the placement boils down to a quarrelsome mood. A turn of phrase arranged so as not to offend anyone, then a tone that suddenly rises: it all happens in a few seconds.

Ketu, the second lunar node, sits opposite in the eighth house, bhava 8. This placement brings disputes you get drawn into, dear friends who pull away, and disappointments in what you undertake.

The nodes are read one by one. One key to the reading: Rahu behaves like Saturn, Ketu like Mars.
