3rd House in Vedic Astrology
Bhava 3, Vikrama, is the house of courage, younger siblings, travel and learning, cadent yet a house of growth.
Bhava 3 asks for courage, and one of its names says so: Vikrama, valor. It is also called Sahaja, the siblings born after you. Duschikya is another name.
Here you find bravery, younger siblings, servants and helpers, movement, the teaching of a master. Mangala signifies it for boldness and younger siblings, and these themes are also read by counting three signs from Mangala. Intelligence can also be filed here.
Two classifications overlap. On one hand, bhava 3 is cadent, away from the angles. On the other, it is upachaya, a house of growth like houses 6, 10 and 11, so that what it carries develops. These houses can stop growing if a malefic, or a graha hostile to their lord, occupies or aspects them; they can also keep growing in spite of it.
Its lord, for its part, ranks with those of the 6th and 11th among the unfavorable lords, the mildest of the three.
The axis of the 3rd house
Rahu receives two supports in the third house, bhava 3: pride and a tenacious will. Great valor completes them. A disagreement with brothers is also noted, which should be taken as a sensitive point rather than a rupture written in advance.
Ketu, which faces it in the ninth house, bhava 9, is read in two quite different ways. One only lines up judgments on conduct. The other sketches a temperament: impetuosity and courage, eloquence, a desire to shine. It also mentions hostility toward the parents.
The lunar nodes are read each on its own.
