11th House in Vedic Astrology

Labha bhava

Bhava 11, Labha, is a good house of gains whose lord is judged difficult; the house and its lord are read separately.

An excellent house, a lord with a poor reputation: that is the paradox of bhava 11. It is called Labha, gain, or Bhava, acquisition. It holds income, possessions of all kinds, livestock and one family ally, the son's wife.

The house is succedent and a house of growth, upachaya: what it welcomes multiplies. Guru signifies it for elder siblings. To read it, you also count eleven signs from Surya and from Chandra.

Now the paradox. The lords of the 3rd, the 6th and the 11th count among the unfavorable ones, and the last of the three is the heaviest. The lord of the 11th would thus be the reverse of the lord of the 10th. The house tells what comes in, while its lord is judged separately. The two statements stand together without cancelling each other.

This is worth repeating because many beginners take the house for the graha that governs it.

The axis of the 11th house

Rahu sits in the eleventh house, bhava 11, and Ketu takes the opposite place, in the fifth house, bhava 5.

For Ketu, only two traits stand out: a crafty mind and apprehension of water. Each lunar node is interpreted separately.
