4th House in Vedic Astrology
Bhava 4, Bandhu, is the northern angle and the house of home: mother, close ones, land, vehicles and happiness.
Bhava 4 shelters what protects you. It is called Bandhu, the close ones. Griha, the dwelling, and Sukha, well-being, are other names among many.
It forms an angle, the northern one, at the lowest point of the sky. It gathers the mother and your circle, happiness, land and homes, vehicles. Chandra signifies the mother, and these themes are read again at the fourth sign from it. Chandra and Shukra draw their directional strength here.
One subject stays open: schooling. You can place it here, as primary education, while keeping study and knowledge for bhava 5.
Another nuance of vocabulary: houses 4 and 8 make a pair called chaturasra, but 4 and 5 can also be read together.
You recognize bhava 4 by a very simple feeling: putting your keys down when you get home.
The axis of the 4th house
Friendships, but happiness only in breaks of sunshine: that is the lot of Rahu in the fourth house, bhava 4, the house of the home. It is specified that you may cause pain to those who live close to you.
Opposite, Ketu holds the tenth house, bhava 10, and the readings split in two. The first admits a bold energy and wide renown, while seeing obstacles to good deeds and judging conduct severely. The second draws an almost entirely happy portrait: wisdom, strength, talent in the arts, self-knowledge. It sees someone who loves their fellow humans but acts against the grain, and who travels constantly. Nothing says when one prevails over the other.
