Scorpio Sidereal Sign: Vrishchika
Vrishchika, the eighth rashi, is the fixed, hidden scorpion of Mangala, passionate and intense; Chandra falls here.
Vrishchika dwells in holes, and the whole sign is summed up in that trait. The eighth rashi, running from 210° to 240° in the sidereal zodiac, has the scorpion as its image and what stays concealed, deep inside things, as its idea. It is said to be very keen and passionate. It is fixed: its intensity lasts over time.
Mangala governs it. Ketu may own it too, but only in certain period calculations. Chandra falls here at the third degree. No planet discovered by telescope appears here.
An even sign, it is considered feminine. It is pictured as slim and hairy, with many legs, and it is the only sign pictured as a centipede. It moves in water as on land, faces north and rises by the head. It is strong by day. Its color is reddish brown or golden.
The body of the cosmic being sees the intimate parts here, which fits the idea of a hiding place. Its last navamsha, the final ninth of the sign, forms a junction called riksha sandhi.
Vrishchika as Lagna, the Ascendant
Two opposite traits sit side by side in Vrishchika: you may have no adversaries at all, and your adversaries may be your own people. You yield nothing to whoever resists you, and the danger comes from your own folk. Vrishchika, Scorpio of the sidereal zodiac, is a fixed sign under the guidance of Mangala, Mars. If Vrishchika was rising in the east when you were born, it is your lagna.
For the rest, we see a pillar. You shelter a large family and hold a leader's role over others, understood as a gift for guiding. The character is rough. Money goes quickly and comfort comes last, in the manner of those who pay everyone's studies while keeping their old sofa. The portrait also charges you with watching over livestock, a detail from a farming world. Partnership can darken the mood, and your relatives do not always look on you kindly.
The temperament is bile or phlegm. Jupiter and the Moon are favorable to this lagna. Mars, which nevertheless rules the sign, stays neutral here because it also rules the sixth bhava.
