Sagittarius Sidereal Sign: Dhanu

Dhanu rashi

Dhanu, the ninth rashi, is the centaur with a bow, a dual fire sign of Guru, with two natures and a royal radiance.

Half man, half horse, a bow in hand: Dhanu is the rashi of the aim. It holds ninth place in the sidereal zodiac and runs from 240° to 270°, and some manuals spell it Dhanus. Guru governs it. The first third of the sign forms Guru's moolatrikona.

Its dual nature is stressed: two feet first, then four legs. A dual sign, of fire. Odd, it is considered masculine. Its nature is sattva, which is associated with uprightness. It is tawny, radiant and evenly proportioned. It lives on firm ground, faces east and rules the night. It counts among the royal signs, which speaks of its radiance without promising anything to anyone.

Where does it rise from? It may rise by the head, or else count among the signs that rise by the back. Both images coexist.

Dhanu represents the thighs of the cosmic being, and its navamshas start at Mesha.

The bow says the rest in one gesture: aim first, release afterwards.

Dhanu as Lagna, the Ascendant

Laws, regulations, what is written and what is pleaded: the old portrait of Dhanu grants you knowledge in this field. Dhanu, Sagittarius of the sidereal zodiac, is a dual fire sign under the guidance of Guru, Jupiter. It is called royal. If Dhanu was rising in the east when you were born, it becomes your lagna, and this sidereal lagna is often not the Ascendant calculated in Western astrology.

You are credited with skill at work and grit when it is time to fight. Many respect you and the powerful hold you in esteem. Your activity may take you abroad. That is the bright side. It is also noted that you worry your brothers, that pious works touch you little and that partnership has its quarrels. Someone who knows the rules by heart also likes having the last word at home!

The temperament is split: phlegm and wind on one side, bile on the other. Mars and the Sun are favorable to this lagna, with Venus the only adverse one. Jupiter stays neutral here, though lord of the sign. United with the Moon, it would form a remarkable combination.
